چکیده

Current scenarios for the evolution of binaries predict that only 1%or less of the single radio pulsars in the galactic disk have been recycled in a binary. The fraction of such pulsars amongst the detected single radio pulsars is smaller than this. For magnetic field strengths B > 1012 G the period vs. magnetic field diagram shows no evidence for injection of pulsars at P ∼ 0.5 s. For magnetic field strengths 1010.5 < B < 1011.5 G recycled single pulsars cannot be discriminated from ordinary pulsars, i.e. there is no reason to assume that they are recycled.

Binary and recycled pulsars: 30 years after observational discovery

Binary radio pulsars, first discovered by Hulse and Taylor in 1974 [1], are a unique tool for experimentally testing general relativity (GR), whose validity has been confirmed with a precision unavailable in laboratory experiments. In particular, indirect evidence of the existence of gravitational waves has been obtained. Radio pulsars in binary systems (which have come to be known as recycled)...

Population statistics study of radio and gamma - ray pulsars in the Galactic plane

We present results of our pulsar population synthesis of ordinary isolated and millisecond pulsars in the Galactic plane. Over the past several years, a program has been developed to simulate pulsar birth, evolution and emission using Monte Carlo techniques. We have added to the program the capability to simulate millisecond pulsars, which are old, recycled pulsars with extremely short periods....

The origin of single radio pulsars

By comparing relative rates of supernovae versus formation rates of single radio pulsars, recycled pulsars, binary pulsars and X-ray binaries we put strong limits on the progenitors of radio pulsars and on the requirement of an asymmetry in the supernova. The assumption that radio pulsars are only formed in type Ib and type Ic supernovae from interacting binaries (Iben & Tutukov 1996) breaks do...

Recycled Pulsars Discovered at High Radio Frequency

We present the timing parameters of nine pulsars discovered in a survey of intermediate Galactic latitudes at 1400 MHz with the Parkes radio telescope. Eight of these pulsars possess small pulse periods and period derivatives thought to be indicative of “recycling”. Six of the pulsars are in circular binary systems, including two with relatively massive white dwarf companions. We discuss the im...

Double and single recycled pulsars : an evolutionary puzzle ?

We investigate the statistics of isolated recycled pulsars and double neutron star bina-ries in the Galactic disk. Since recycled pulsars are believed to form through accretion and spinup in close binaries, the isolated objects presumably originate from disrupted progenitors of double neutron stars. As noted by previous authors, there are about twice as many double neutron star systems compared...
